THE HISTORY
The Story Of This Bar
Tick Tock Tavern is a South St. Louis corner bar where the past is still part of the room. The Magnolia Avenue tavern pairs the easy rhythm of a neighborhood bar with clocks, owls, old beer pieces, framed stories and the kind of objects that only make sense after a place has collected them for years.
A familiar name returns
The address housed a neighborhood tavern for decades before the room went dark. Tick Tock returned under its familiar name in 2014, preserving the identity of the old corner bar instead of sanding away its history. The result feels revived rather than recreated.

Clocks, owls and a room full of evidence
The name is carried through the room by a collection of clocks, but the owls and miscellaneous neighborhood artifacts are just as memorable. A Tick Tock sign, Stag breweriana, photographs, books, koozies and small oddities share the shelves. None of it reads like a themed installation. It looks accumulated, which is exactly why it works.

The earlier Tick Tock
A framed Riverfront Times feature displayed inside the bar preserves part of its earlier history. The article describes the old Tick Tock as a tight-knit tavern at Magnolia and Arkansas and identifies longtime owner Charlotte “Miss Charlotte” Horvath. The artifact connects the current revival to the neighborhood bar that came before it without pretending the two eras are identical.

A South City gathering place
Today the tavern remains compact, casual and welcoming. Local beer, straightforward drinks, conversation, board games and the patio keep the focus on the people in the room. Nearby food options have changed over time, but the bar has continued to function as a comfortable neighborhood stop rather than a destination built around spectacle.

Why Tick Tock matters
Tick Tock matters because it shows how a neighborhood tavern can return without erasing what made the address memorable. The old name, the corner building, the clocks, the newspaper story and the people who use the room now all occupy the same record.
